Albacete celebrates the Fair in honor of its patroness

Albacete Fair

Our Lady of ‘Los Llanos’ is the patroness of Albacete and the celebrations in her honor are celebrated from September 7 to 17

The Albacete Fair is one of the best known and oldest in our country, since it dates back to the 13th century, and it is also declared of International Tourist Interest because of its great impact. ‘La Sartén’ or ‘Los Redondeles’ is celebrated, which is how the Albacete Fairgrounds are known, and whose construction dates back to the year 1783. It is declared of Cultural Interest.

In our visit we can not stop going to the Fairground with tombolas and games, the Chapel of the Virgin where the great offering of flowers takes place, the concerts in the Garden House, the booths, the Iron Gate, the Market, the Lonja, the Tapa Fair, the different rings of the Enclosure, the Equestrian Fair and, of course, the Bullring.

The origin of the Fair

According to legend, a farmer found an image of the Virgin in Los Llanos, and a hermitage was built there thanks to the contributions of the Albacete. In the seventeenth century it is already referred to as the patroness of the city of La Mancha. Historically the pilgrimage took place until the site every September 8, the day of his holiday, but the image of the Virgin of Los Llanos is currently in the cathedral of Albacete.
