The Zamora Bullfighting Fair: A Testament to Castilian Pride

Every June, Zamora presents a short but select fair in terms of programming. Two events in which two of the youngest promises of the novillada compete, the leading figure in current rejoneo appears, and three pedigree matadors take the walk. It is the ideal offer to approach the city of Romanesque and witness the most exclusive San Pedro Fair live. Or are you going to let them tell you about it?

Zamora Bullfighting Fair 2024

Zamora is one of the provinces with the most passion in old Castilla, and its San Pedro Fair is a source of pride for its capital. The company Circuitos Taurinos, led by Carlos Zúñiga, has given the cycle momentum each season, restoring its former glory, thanks to attractive and original combinations, always featuring the best of each rank.

On Saturday 29th, the patron’s day, Diego Ventura, the leading figure in current rejoneo (bullfighting on horseback), returns to Zamora. He is well known to this fan base, having seen him triumph emphatically on numerous occasions. On this occasion, the knight from Puebla del Río will be accompanied by two of the main references in current novillada (novice bullfighting): the very young Manuel Román and Marco Pérez.

Manuel Román is a young man from Córdoba who has stirred up the whole province. Small but alert in appearance, he has an elegant and intuitive style of bullfighting, which he also performs with great slowness. Despite his fragile and childlike appearance, he has triumphed in significant arenas, like last year in Aranjuez or this season in the Los Califas bullring. He also has a good number of followers.

There is little to say about Marco Pérez that hasn’t already been said. He is the latest case of a child prodigy in bullfighting. An example of astonishing precocity that first captivated his fellow Salamancans at just eight years old, and later the fans of the entire bullfighting world, as he has even triumphed in America with his compact and collected bullfighting, of great personality.

It will be exciting to see these two youngsters compete head-to-head, who have already shown ample evidence of their ability in front of the young bulls, a circumstance that makes us look with hopeful optimism at the future of this spectacle. The next day (Sunday 30th) a bullfight is announced from the reputable ranch of Don Joaquín Núñez del Cuvillo, in which three fair bullfighters are announced.

Leading the trio is Cayetano Rivera Ordóñez, a dynastic bullfighter who this year is undertaking a season of great commitment, with performances in the Fallas of Valencia, the April Fair of Seville, and a double commitment in San Isidro. Daniel Luque, who triumphed greatly in La Maestranza, including the Puerta del Príncipe, and Ginés Marín, protagonist of a great afternoon a few days ago in the San Fernando Bullfight of Aranjuez, complete the combination and the offer of a select subscription, of great category, that which the good Castilian fans always boast of.
