Bullfighting in Segovia - 29 June 2025
There’s no denying that Segovia is one of the most beautiful cities in Spain, world-famous for its Roman aqueduct—one of the best preserved in existence (if not the best). Its narrow cobbled streets, rich blend of cultures, the Alcázar, countless Romanesque churches, the Plaza del Azoguejo, and the Cathedral of Santa María… are just a handful of the many reasons why this Castilian gem is perfect for a getaway at any time of year.
With a milder climate than Madrid, Segovia invites visitors to stroll through its gardens, enjoy tapas under the arcades of the Plaza Mayor, and soak in its stunning views—before or after indulging in its renowned gastronomy. Must-tries include judiones (giant white beans) from La Granja, the celebrated cochinillo asado (roast suckling pig), and the city’s most famous dessert: ponche segoviano.
Segovia is a joy to explore all year round, but the feast of Saint Peter is the perfect excuse to go—especially if you plan to attend the bullfight. The city’s bullring is not only one of the oldest in Castile, but also in the whole of Spain. Inaugurated in 1805, its charm lies in its authenticity; despite some renovations over the years, its historic character has been preserved.
With a seating capacity of 7,000, the arena welcomes fans from across the province and beyond. Segovia’s excellent transport links—frequent buses, commuter trains, and even a high-speed AVE station—make it easily accessible from many regions.
In 2025, the city will host a particularly enticing bullfight, featuring three top matadors and a prestigious livestock breeder. It’s the best way to celebrate the festivities in honour of Saints Peter and Paul on Sunday 29 June.
Leading the bill is Miguel Ángel Perera, a leading figure in modern bullfighting who has maintained his elite status in rings around the world for nearly two decades. In recent seasons, his style has matured while retaining the hallmarks of his art: strength and control.
Alejandro Talavante, the recent star of the San Isidro Fair, brings a very different flair. An inspired, instinctive torero, he currently tops the rankings both in number of appearances and total trophies (ears) won.
Completing the trio is Daniel Luque, a stylish matador with great experience and a solid reputation. His recent successes in top-tier arenas have earned him respect, and he continues to impress with every performance.
The bulls will come from the Alcurrucén ranch, which breeds under the noble and reliable Núñez bloodline—guaranteeing both pedigree and performance for a show where everything is set for success.
So… what will you be doing on the 29th of June?
