San Lucas Bullfighting Fair 2025
Eight months after officially kicking off in Valdemorillo, the 2025 bullfighting season reaches its final stop: Jaén, the last fair of the circuit. Over time, the extension of the season and its late dates had reduced the importance of the San Lucas subscription. That changed when Tauroemoción, led by Alberto García, restructured the programme and revitalised the historic La Alameda bullring.
The first step was to adjust the offer, avoiding irrelevant shows that only served to fill the schedule. Once redirected, the focus was on building strong line-ups that would once again bring fans back to Jaén.
Local aficionados were the first to return, followed by fans from across the province, as Jaén has a loyal and deeply rooted bullfighting tradition. When given compelling reasons, its audience responds with passion. Nowadays, the fair attracts not only the locals but also aficionados from neighbouring areas and other provinces, many crossing Despeñaperros or travelling up from Andalusia to witness the remarkable spectacles on offer.
The fair has also benefited from its revised format: events are now held on weekends and during the public holidays of El Pilar and San Lucas, instead of being celebrated continuously. This makes it easier for fans to plan their visit and contributes to the atmosphere of pilgrimage around the festivities.
For 2025, Jaén presents two outstanding events:
Sunday, 12 October: A top-class corrida bringing together the two leaders of the season, Alejandro Talavante and Emilio de Justo, who will face Manuel Escribano, a guarantee of spectacle in all thirds. The bulls will come from the prestigious studs of Juan Pedro Domecq, Jandilla and Garcigrande.
Saturday, 18 October (San Lucas Day): The legendary Victorino Martín herd returns to La Alameda to close another brilliant season. The albaserrada bulls will be fought by three specialists in the bloodline, combining mastery and style: veterans Curro Díaz and Manuel Jesús “El Cid”, alongside the talented young David Galván. With such a line-up, fans can expect a thrilling afternoon of authentic bullfighting.
The offer is truly irresistible. Add to this the comfort of Jaén’s bullring, the city’s excellent connections, and the long winter that follows the season’s close — and the decision becomes clear. If you haven’t yet made plans, set aside the dates for Jaén. You won’t regret it.
