The Miracle Fair: Opening the Bullfighting Season
Every March, Illescas celebrates its renowned Miracle Fair, one of the first major bullfighting events in the Spanish calendar. This event originates from the historic Fiesta del Milagro, which commemorates an event from 1562: a young woman named Francisca de la Cruz, born paralysed, was cured after praying to the Virgin of Charity. Since then, every 11th of March, the locals celebrate this miracle, making the fair an unmissable occasion.
The current Miracle Fair evolved from the old Spring Bullfight, promoted by the company Maxitoro. Today, the fair includes two main events: a traditional bullfight and a rejoneo bullfight (on horseback). Every year, leading bullfighters and well-known personalities gather in Illescas, turning this event into a spectacle of great significance.
Patron Saint Festivities: Honouring the Virgin of Charity
In August and September, Illescas holds its festivities in honour of Our Lady of the Virgin of Charity, its patron saint. These celebrations include a grand bullfight, attracting enthusiasts and tourists eager to enjoy the festive atmosphere and bullfighting tradition.
