6th edition of the Corrida del Renacimiento
Baeza has officially announced the much-anticipated 6th Corrida del Renacimiento. This annual event has become a staple in this stunning Andalusian town, whose beauty is perfectly complemented by its grand bullring. More than a century old—it was inaugurated on May 18, 1892—this venue provides the ideal setting for such an occasion.
The event is organised by Tauroemoción, led by Alberto García, and, as always, their carefully curated line-up is designed to appeal to both dedicated aficionados and occasional spectators alike.
Why? Because the line-up features some of the most celebrated matadors in the world of bullfighting. Among them is Cayetano, who is on the verge of retiring from the ring this year. Joining him are Emilio de Justo, a classic-style bullfighter and one of the most successful matadors of recent seasons, and Juan Ortega, a unique artist within today’s ranks, who also shares a strong connection with the province of Jaén.
The bulls selected for this event come from the prestigious Román Sorando ranch, based in the town of Villanueva de la Reina. These bulls, bred from the renowned Domecq bloodline—primarily through Las Ramblas—are known for their exceptional quality and noble temperament, making them the perfect partners for this outstanding trio of matadors.
A trip to Baeza is well worth it, not only for the corrida itself but also for the rich history and charm of the city and its surroundings. Jaén is a land steeped in livestock traditions, with landscapes that offer breathtaking views as you journey towards this city, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its remarkable Renaissance architecture.

If you have the chance, arrive early and take in the beauty of Baeza’s bullring, a stunning example of neo-Mudejar architecture. Its horseshoe-shaped arches at the main entrances are a hallmark of this style, which flourished in the late 19th century.
The bullring, with its traditional stone-tiered seating, can accommodate 5,500 spectators. Inside, visitors will find a fascinating exhibition of historic bullfighting posters, capes, and traditional matador costumes, as well as the mounted head of “Ventanero,” the famous bull fought by maestro Lagartijo during the inauguration of the arena.
This excursion offers far more than just a thrilling bullfight—it’s the perfect opportunity to explore a city that stands as a beacon of Renaissance heritage. With such a prestigious line-up, Baeza’s bullfighting tradition is truly experiencing a renaissance of its own.
