Huelva: Star-Studded Line-Ups at the Foot of Monte Conquero
The Feria de Las Colombinas in Huelva marks the beginning of August in the Andalusian bullfighting calendar. While El Puerto and Málaga follow soon after, it’s Huelva that opens the month with style. This is a tightly packed festival featuring some of the finest names in the bullfighting world, carefully selected to suit a diverse and knowledgeable audience. One that appreciates both classic elegance and more unorthodox approaches to the art.
This blend results in a lively, yet discerning crowd. The atmosphere is festive without being frivolous. Each performance is judged with enthusiasm, but also with seriousness, always supporting the matador while maintaining respect for the bull. Special warmth is shown for the local heroes.
Among them, the Litri family has long been an institution – Huelva’s most prominent bullfighting dynasty. They were followed by Chamaco, Silvera, and now David de Miranda, who proudly carries Huelva’s flag with his recent triumphs in Madrid and Seville, where he exited through the legendary Puerta del Príncipe during the last Feria de Abril.
David de Miranda will perform on 1 August alongside Manzanares and Roca Rey, facing bulls from Torrealta, in what promises to be one of the standout events of the fair. The next day, Saturday 2 August, features another top-class card: Morante de la Puebla, Daniel Luque and Juan Ortega with bulls from Loreto Charro – a true luxury line-up.
The fair opens on Thursday 31 July with a compelling mix of experience and excitement. Emilio de Justo and Borja Jiménez – both enjoying outstanding seasons with a total of seven Puertas Grandes in Madrid – join the young sensation Marco Pérez, who at just 17 is already causing a stir across the bullfighting world. They will face bulls from Juan Pedro Domecq.
The fair officially begins the day before, on Wednesday 30 July, with a novillada (a bullfight with young matadors) featuring Javier Zulueta, Cristian González and Carlos Tirado, who will face bulls from José Luis Pereda, the businessman and owner of the Huelva bullring. He has also prepared the final event: a rejoneo (mounted bullfighting) show starring Sergio Galán, Diego Ventura and local rider Andrés Romero, with bulls from Bohórquez.
And of course, there’s more than bullfighting. Huelva offers stunning beaches, delicious local cuisine, and warm southern hospitality. The bullring itself is spacious, modern and comfortable, with shows beginning at 8:00 PM, once the heat of the day has eased. Perfect conditions for enjoying an unforgettable experience at the foot of Monte Conquero.
