Marbella Candlelight Fair
It is one of the heats of the Canto del Loco, and could well be taken as a slogan by the Marbella bullring, which after nine years has reopened its doors. The decade off the circuit has not affected the bullring on the Costa del Sol, as could be seen last June, coinciding with the fiestas of San Bartolomé.
On that occasion, Manzanares, Talavante and Roca Rey delighted tourists and locals alike, who packed the bullring managed by Jorge Cutiño and Raúl Gracia “El Tato”, the visible heads of Arenal Marbella Toros, a company whose shareholders include such illustrious figures as Miguel Báez “Litri”, José María Pacheco Guardiola and Fermín and Iván Bohórquez.
The success of that day has pushed this company to go all out for the next Feria de Los Candiles, a mini-cycle which will take place on the weekend of the 9th and 10th of August with night-time festivities, which will begin at 22.30 hours. Undoubtedly, the ideal time, away from the heat and in the light of the candles, to enjoy two shows with so much content.
Because the company has programmed the farewells in this bullring of the masters Enrique Ponce and Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza, and has done so by surrounding both of them with figures from their respective ranks. On Friday the 9th, the Valencian maestro will open the bullring in a monster bullfight, which will be completed by none other than Morante de la Puebla, Alejandro Talavante and Juan Ortega, with bulls from Núñez del Cuvillo.
And the following day (Saturday 10th), it will be Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza who will receive the honours along with his son Guillermo and the Frenchwoman Léa Vicens. The bulls to be fought by both the centaur from Estella and his illustrious companions will belong to the Murubeña herd of Fermín Bohórquez, a guarantee for this type of equestrian bullfighting spectacle.
The first stone has been laid. The recovery of the bullring is a fact. All that remains is for the work to continue, for the fans to support the company’s commitment with their attendance, and for it to bear fruit over the years. Marbella is in luck. It can now boast of its bullring, its posters and its stars. And all in the moonlight.
