The summer season in the Community of Madrid would not be complete without a visit to La Corredera Bullring in Colmenar Viejo. This historic venue has firmly established itself as the second most important bullring in the region in terms of both prestige and number of events, behind only Las Ventas. The structure of its season, managed by Circuitos Taurinos de Carlos Zúñiga, demonstrates that a second-tier bullring can put together a fair with the standards, seriousness and appeal of any first-class venue.
Colmenar Viejo is part of an environment in which the fighting bull is very much at the heart of local life. The municipality has strong ties to cattle breeding and the historic dehesas of the Sierra de Madrid. This close relationship with bull breeding means that the bulls entering the ring at La Corredera are always expected to meet high standards of presentation and physical presence. For the 2026 edition, the programme offers an impressive variety of breeding lines, combining established international names, French breeding ranches and essential support for local breeders.
The season, running from 29 August to 2 September, strikes a carefully balanced combination of established artistic figures, emerging talent and the bullfighters who have enjoyed success in Madrid and Seville this season. The main attractions this year include:
- The return of the artistic stars: A reunion of classic, highly individual bullfighters on the same line-up.
- Supporting Madrid-based talent: Local professionals and bullfighters are given prominent places in high-profile line-ups.
- Traditional events: Popular events such as the public presentation of the bulls and the traditional cattle drives add another dimension to the experience for aficionados.
Full line-up
Saturday 29 August – Novillada with Picadors: Young bulls from Blohorn (Jandilla bloodline), for David López, Álvaro Serrano and Ignacio Garibay. An international choice of breeding stock to test three young bullfighters looking to make their mark and progress towards Spain’s leading fairs.
Sunday 30 August – Bullfight: Bulls from Manuel Assunçao Coimbra (El Freixo bloodline), for Román, Miguel de Pablo and Clemente. A line-up of great interest to the purist, featuring the determination of Valencian bullfighter Román, the presence of local matador Miguel de Pablo and the distinctive approach of Frenchman Clemente.
Monday 31 August – Bullfight: Bulls from Núñez del Cuvillo, for Alejandro Talavante, Juan Ortega and Pablo Aguado. The star line-up of the fair in terms of names, bringing together three top-class bullfighters with distinctly artistic styles against one of the breeding ranches most favoured by the leading figures.
Tuesday 1 September – Bullfight: Bulls from Juan Manuel Criado, for Diego Urdiales, David de Miranda and Víctor Hernández. A combination that brings together purity and renewal. Urdiales’ experience meets the courage of David de Miranda and the outstanding form of Víctor Hernández following his successes at Las Ventas.
Wednesday 2 September – Novillada without Picadors: Young bulls from Ginés Bartolomé, a local breeding ranch from Colmenar Viejo, for Rodrigo Cobo, Marco Peláez and Rubén Vara. The perfect finale to a programme focused on promoting the next generation of talent from the bullfighting school, with entirely local breeding stock.
The bullfighting events are perfectly complemented by a vibrant programme of local festivities, from traditional cattle drives and popular morning breakfasts to free concerts at the Recinto Ferial and evening open-air dances in Plaza del Pueblo. Colmenar Viejo offers the perfect balance between the seriousness and quality of its bullfighting fair and the lively atmosphere of its streets. Just a short distance from Madrid, it is undoubtedly one of the essential summer getaways for anyone looking to enjoy culture, mountain cuisine and the warm hospitality of a town deeply committed to its traditions.
