The bullfighting fair of Cáceres 2025
This spring, Cáceres will host two top-class bullfights. Taking place between May and June, these events combine excitement, tradition, and quality in a city that is a must-visit for lovers of art, bullfighting enthusiasts, and curious travellers alike.
Cáceres is one of the most beautiful cities in Spain – and perhaps one of its best-kept secrets. A rich blend of architectural styles and influences, the city boasts Roman remains and a stunning Old Town that combines Gothic and Renaissance elements. Recognised as the third most important historical site in Europe (after Prague and Tallinn), it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986.
Its bullring is equally steeped in history and character. Known as La Era de los Mártires, it was completed in 1846 and designed by architect Secundino Pelilla. In 1992, it was officially declared a Site of Cultural Interest by both the regional government of Extremadura and Spain’s Ministry of Culture – a clear recognition of its cultural and architectural value.
The arena has a diameter of 45 metres and can comfortably seat over 4,000 spectators. Traditionally, the most significant bullfighting events in Cáceres take place around the feast day of the city’s patron saint, San Fernando. For generations, legendary matadors have appeared in this ring at this special time of year – a key date on both the regional and national bullfighting calendar.
In 2025, the company Lances de Futuro, led by José María Garzón, has prepared two first-class line-ups to honour this tradition and elevate the prestige of the Cáceres bullring. The two bullfights are scheduled for Saturday 31 May and Sunday 1 June, bringing together the crème de la crème of today’s bullfighting scene.
The opening event features three refined and elegant matadors: Morante de la Puebla, one of the greatest exponents of the art of bullfighting; Emilio de Justo, a native of Cáceres and the province’s most celebrated bullfighter; and Juan Ortega, a cult figure whose presence draws more and more devoted fans to each of his performances. They will face bulls from Domingo Hernández – a trusted name known for breeding high-quality fighting bulls.
On Sunday 1 June, a second outstanding card brings together Andrés Roca Rey, the biggest name in bullfighting today, with two distinguished toreros from the province of Badajoz: Antonio Ferrera and Ginés Marín. This event is a celebration of rivalry, stylistic diversity, and the Extremaduran region’s deep ties to the bullfighting tradition.
To enhance the variety, the bulls for this second day will come from two renowned breeders: three from Juan Pedro Domecq and three from El Pilar. Altogether, this is a powerful and unmissable feria in a city full of charm – a must-see for art lovers and bullfighting fans alike.
The headline of this article says it all: in 2025, more than ever, Cáceres offers a truly monumental feria.
