The poster for the Brihuega Spring Bullfight 2026
Although we are still in the middle of December, in Brihuega — alongside the festive atmosphere of Christmas already in the air — there is another major piece of news to celebrate: the Spring Bullfight has already been announced, complete with date and an outstanding line-up for its 2026 edition. Step inside and see for yourself!
Almost like an early forecast of spring itself, Brihuega’s traditional Spring Bullfight has been announced this year in the middle of December. This early announcement forms part of the strategy adopted by the organising company Funtausa for the Christmas period, allowing fans to purchase tickets well in advance and to give them as a gift to loved ones during this special time of year.
And the truth is that the 2026 line-up, scheduled for Saturday, 11 April, is well worth the wait. The bill combines appeal for the seasoned bullfighting enthusiast with strong interest for a broader audience — perhaps less knowledgeable, but no less enthusiastic — drawn to the bullring by the atmosphere, colour and sense of occasion that this spectacle naturally provides.
Opening the event will be José María Manzanares, a regular presence at this bullfight, one of the most important of the year in the province and among the highlights of the early season. A proven matador with more than twenty years since taking his alternativa, Manzanares possesses a clearly defined style — classical and elegant — that resonates equally with the most experienced professionals and those new to bullfighting.
Another member of the line-up is Juan Ortega, perhaps the matador who has gathered the most devoted following in recent years, thanks to a refined style marked by exquisite rhythm, elegant lines and outstanding artistry. He also brings with him the allure of the unknown, as he is neither a matador of pre-planned performances nor predictable afternoons. What will Ortega deliver today? That question is part of his greatness.
Between them in the paseíllo will be the Peruvian Andrés Roca Rey, the leading figure in contemporary bullfighting, currently the sport’s biggest box-office draw and the matador who attracts the largest crowds, particularly younger spectators. He is a torero who understands exactly what it means to succeed in the unique setting of La Muralla, completing a line-up rich in contrast and genuine interest.
The bulls will come from the herds of Hermanos García Jiménez and Olga Jiménez Fernández, both belonging to Casa Matilla and bred from the finest Domecq bloodlines. A reliable guarantee that the foundations of the spectacle — the bulls themselves — will be of the highest quality.
With the poster for its Spring Bullfight now officially unveiled, Brihuega has every reason to feel proud. The event promises excitement, rivalry and true artistry in a privileged setting, where the historic surroundings create a magical atmosphere. A city that, through merit and tradition, has earned its place among the most important bullfighting destinations in Spain.
