7th edition of the Corrida del Renacimiento in Baeza
The company Tauroemoción has done it again. A powerful line-up, featuring the leading figures of bullfighting once more, for the 7th edition of the Corrida del Renacimiento in Baeza, firmly establishing this event as one of the great early-season classics.
The formula is easy to explain; what is truly difficult—and highly commendable—is what Alberto García’s company achieves every year: bringing together in this beautiful town in Jaén some of the most appealing matadors, both for the general public and for seasoned aficionados, from Andalusia and from the wider bullfighting world.
In 2026, on Saturday 11 April, the bullring will welcome Alejandro Talavante, Emilio de Justo and local torero Pedro Gallego, who on this special day will take his alternativa and become a fully-fledged matador.
This makes the occasion a truly historic one, as it will be the first alternativa ever held in the bullring of Baeza throughout its 134-year history. An exceptional event, starring Pedro Gallego, a young matador from this very land, who has already left a strong impression whenever he has worn the suit of lights during his promising early career.
Little needs to be said about Talavante and Emilio de Justo. Two leading matadors from Extremadura, both with outstanding careers and particularly cherished at Madrid’s Las Ventas Bullring, where together they have achieved more than ten Puerta Grande triumphs. This year also marks twenty years since Talavante became a matador, and it is worth noting that Alejandro himself acted as godfather at Emilio de Justo’s alternativa just a few years later—the first ceremony ever granted by Talavante.
Special mention must also be made of the cattle, bearing the iron and colours of Victoriano del Río. One of the most prestigious breeding farms in Spain, it will fight only two corridas in third-category bullrings this season, one of them here in Baeza—clear proof of the respect and seriousness that professionals attribute to the Corrida del Renacimiento.
Everything else speaks for itself. Watching bullfighting in Baeza is not the same as watching it anywhere else. This is a city declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to its extraordinary Renaissance architecture. That is why visitors should take their time: stroll through its charming streets and enjoy its historic centre, easily explored on foot, discovering its squares, palaces and churches.
The cathedral, the Jabalquinto Palace and the Santa María Fountain are just some of the treasures this city has to offer. Discover them, pair the experience with the rich local gastronomy, and round off the day by attending the Corrida del Renacimiento. The plan is perfect.
