Guadalajara: A Fair That Keeps on Growing

Guadalajara Bullfighting Fair

The Feria de La Antigua in Guadalajara is a subscription series that keeps growing. Year after year, it improves both in the quality of its posters and the strength of its combinations. Naturally, this resurgence is also reflected in the number of spectators who flock to Las Cruces bullring each season—not only for the traditional morning encierros.

A couple of decades ago, despite the region’s strong bullfighting tradition, the fair hit rock bottom. The big names stopped coming to Guadalajara. But in those difficult years emerged the figure of Iván Fandiño, a bullfighter from Orduña but deeply rooted in the capital of La Alcarria. His presence and consolidation at the top of the rankings attracted the rest of the stars back to this Mancha stronghold.

Since then, this September series has regained its status as what it always was: a benchmark cycle for this month of the season. Now it offers four finely balanced posters, featuring the most in-demand matadors alongside the most exciting young promises.

The fair opens on Thursday, 18 September 2025, with a Murube-blooded corrida from El Capea, fought by José Antonio “Morante de la Puebla”—undoubtedly the bullfighter of the year—together with José María Manzanares and Alejandro Talavante, in what may well be the most complete card of the programme.

On Friday 19 September, the spotlight falls on a mano a mano between the Extremaduran Ginés Marín, already firmly established in the bullfighting ranks, and Víctor Hernández, the revelation matador of the last San Isidro Fair and one of the brightest hopes of the new generation. They will fight bulls from José Vázquez.

Saturday 20 September brings another combination of seasoned figures and rising stars: Miguel Ángel Perera, Daniel Luque and Fernando Adrián, facing bulls from Alcurrucén. Finally, the cycle closes on Sunday 21 September with a Zalduendo corrida featuring Sebastián Castella, Pablo Aguado and Tomás Rufo.

In short, this is a series full of attractions, just over half an hour from Madrid, complemented by the traditional morning encierros. The perfect excuse to spend a day in one of Spain’s fastest-growing cities—one that proudly boasts festivities fully worthy of its tradition.
