Pontevedra 'La Peregrina' bullfighting fair
Despite signs that insist on saying otherwise, Galicia is also bullfighting territory. Currently, there is only one stronghold in those lands that, like Asterix’s village, fights tooth and nail against the false morality that some parts of society try to impose. That city is Pontevedra, and its fortress, the centenary San Roque Bullring, is the place where bullfighting speaks, expresses itself, and feels in Galician.
The bullring is owned by the Lozano family. It would not be fair to overlook or fail to recognize the merits of this family from La Sagra in Toledo, without whose involvement it would not be possible for the bulls to appear on the Atlantic coast every August. Well, the peñas provide color and atmosphere to the festivities, but always from respect, without disturbing or interrupting the development of the show, because everything the bullfighter does in Pontevedra is respected and admired by the parish, which only dances and gets up at the end of the fight of each bull.
The well-understood hubbub goes hand in hand with institutional presence, as regional politicians often meet in the bullring to support a show that, contrary to what might seem, enjoys a large number of followers in the area, whether they are locals or holidaymakers. That’s why on the second weekend of August, you, a
