This unusual combination produced one of the most distinctive genetic and chromatic blends in the fighting bull world, commonly referred to as the <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong>\u201cwhite-legged\u201d<\/strong><\/span> type.<\/p>\n<p>Why this name? Because the resulting animals displayed highly striking coats, often <em>berrendo<\/em> (piebald) in various tones \u2014 mainly black, chestnut or red, and bluish-grey \u2014 and in different patterns such as paired, moon-spotted or patched. Others showed a predominant coat colour, usually black, red or greyish, but with <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong>numerous white markings, particularly on the forehead, tail and legs<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Jos\u00e9 Vega enjoyed little time to develop his experiment. <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong>In 1914 he sold the herd to the Villar brothers<\/strong> <\/span>(Francisco and Vitorio). Its behaviour tends to be explosive in the early stages of the fight \u2014 lively, aggressive and full of character \u2014 but it may lose intensity during the final phase with the muleta, a trait breeders have long sought to improve.<\/p>\n<p>This bloodline is also known for its early development, reaching maturity at around three years of age and ageing more quickly than others. It reached its peak during post-war Spain, when shortages of livestock meant that animals not yet four years old were often fought as fully mature bulls. While the Encinas branch was renowned for its more refined bravery, the Cobaleda line became known for a fiercer, more temperamental charge.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\">The later introduction of official weight announcements<\/span><\/strong> in major bullrings, which encouraged the breeding of larger animals and altered the traditional type of many bloodlines, along with the use of the <em>guarismo<\/em> (branding the final digit of the year of birth on the shoulder to confirm the bull\u2019s true age), gradually pushed these animals to the margins, almost removing them from the arenas altogether.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong>Francisco Galache<\/strong> <\/span>herd of Hernandinos most faithfully represents the Encinas branch, while <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #fa38c9;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.servitoro.com\/en\/3547-el-barcial-bulls.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barcial<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and the recently revived <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #fa38c9;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.servitoro.com\/en\/645-sanchez-cobaleda-bulls.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">S\u00e1nchez Cobaleda<\/a><\/strong><\/span> ranches preserve the Cobaleda lineage. Special mention must also be made of the <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #fa38c9;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.servitoro.com\/en\/2360-fighting-bulls-monteviejo.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Monteviejo<\/a><\/strong><\/span> herd, owned by <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #fa38c9;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.servitoro.com\/en\/558-victorino-martin-andres-fighting-bulls.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Victorino Mart\u00edn<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, which has successfully combined both branches under the same brand. All continue striving to preserve a distinctive and highly valued bloodline, particularly appreciated by the most traditional sector of bullfighting
