Although previous festivals were held in the town (such as one in 1984 featuring great figures like El Viti and Julio Robles), the modern history of the event is linked to the inauguration of the current bullring, named <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong>Braulio Laus\u00edn \u201cGitanillo de Ricla\u201d<\/strong><\/span>, on <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong>10 April 1988<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>It was a historic occasion that brought together legendary matadors such as <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong>Antonio Chenel \u201cAnto\u00f1ete\u201d, Curro Romero, Rafael de Paula and Luis Francisco Espl\u00e1<\/strong><\/span>, alongside the Zaragoza-born matador <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong>Juan Ramos<\/strong><\/span> and the Aragonese novice bullfighter <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong>Jes\u00fas Sanju\u00e1n<\/strong><\/span>. They fought young bulls from the prestigious <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #fa38c9;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.servitoro.com\/en\/513-torrestrella-fighting-bulls.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Torrestrella<\/a><\/strong><\/span> ranch, owned by Don \u00c1lvaro Domecq.<\/p>\n<p>After several decades without being staged, Aragonese promoter <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong>Ignacio R\u00edos<\/strong><\/span> rescued the festival from obscurity when, ten years ago, he took over the management of this charming bullring, located in the Valdejal\u00f3n district, just over forty kilometres from Calatayud.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2016, the festival has been held annually in late March or early April. Its arena has welcomed the leading figures of the bullfighting world, including <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #fa38c9;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.servitoro.com\/en\/61-tickets-morante-de-la-puebla.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Morante de la Puebla<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong>Talavante, Perera, Cayetano, Diego Urdiales<\/strong><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #fa38c9;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.servitoro.com\/en\/105-tickets-juan-ortegahtml.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Juan Ortega<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong>Pablo Aguado<\/strong><\/span>, as well as distinguished veterans such as <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong>Juan Mora<\/strong><\/span> and top-class rejoneadores like <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #fa38c9;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.servitoro.com\/en\/68-tickets-diego-ventura.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Diego Ventura<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong>Guillermo Hermoso de Mendoza<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong>The festival is considered a \u201chigh-quality\u201d event<\/strong><\/span> and remains a benchmark in the province of Zaragoza under the organisation of <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong>Espect\u00e1culos Taurinos R\u00edos<\/strong><\/span>, which continues to keep the local passion for bullfighting alive alongside the <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong>Gitanillo de Ricla Bullfighting Cultural Association<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>For the 2026 season, the festival is scheduled for <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong>Saturday 28 March at 5:00 pm<\/strong><\/span>, featuring the return to the ring of maestro <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong>Antonio S\u00e1nchez Puerto<\/strong><\/span> as its main attraction. A matador from La Mancha, revered by dedicated aficionados, he is still remembered for his performances at Las Ventas in the late 1980s.<\/p>\n<p>Sharing the bill with the matador from Cabezarrubias del Puerto are young talents such as <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #fa38c9;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.servitoro.com\/en\/1905-tickets-victor-hernandez.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">V\u00edctor Hern\u00e1ndez<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, who promises to be one of the sensations of the new season, alongside popular local favourites like La Rioja\u2019s Fabio Jim\u00e9nez and Zaragoza-born <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #fa38c9;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.servitoro.com\/en\/3191-tickets-cristiano-torres.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cristiano Torres<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, both recently confirmed as matadors.<\/p>\n<p>Completing the line-up is <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #fa38c9;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.servitoro.com\/en\/4131-tickets-el-mene.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iker Fern\u00e1ndez \u201cEl Mene\u201d<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, a novice bullfighter from Calatayud and leader of his category in 2025, who achieved a resounding triumph in this very bullring last year by cutting a tail from a <span style=\"color: #fa38c9;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #fa38c9;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.servitoro.com\/en\/508-jandilla-fighting-bulls.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jandilla<\/a><\/strong><\/span> bull. Leading figures, veterans and local talents \u2014 a formula that continues to deliver success in Ricla, now and always.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div
